A New Spirit Recovery Program's Services Include:
The successful candidate for A New Spirit has begun to recognize that total abstinence from all intoxicants is, or at least may be, the most appropriate problem-solving approach to dealing with the unpredictability of his or her impaired control over the use of alcohol and/or other drugs. Having demonstrated a susceptibility to go overboard at least some of the time, the only sensible and safe solution is to go to the other extreme and completely let go of drinking and/or drugging.
We don't ask our patients to promise to never drink or use again, but we do ask them to experiment with abstaining for a clinically significant length of time. People who abstain for a clinically significant period of time (a minimum of two years), and who learn as much about their problem as they can by getting help in a good program, tend to view their own relationship with alcohol and/or other drugs with much more clarity and objectivity than most people can after only a few months. After two years of successful abstinence, most people choose not to resume drinking or using simply because they like being sober and straight and don't want to lose such good feelings about themselves and their accomplishments. But remember--getting to that level of insight, awareness, and confidence takes a couple of years for most people.
The overall goal of the treatment process is to reach a level where recovery is simply one facet of a richly-faceted personality. The patient learns to move freely and responsibly in and out of any circle of people--whether alcohol and/or drugs are involved or not--and to be very comfortable with abstaining. Alcohol and other drug abuse are never the whole problem, but we've learned that little progress on the other issues is actually made until the use and abuse stops.
In our program, the patient relearns the importance of taking good care of oneself, of getting enough exercise and rest, the right nutrition, and the right balance of quality contact with others (including self-help groups and time alone). The patient's own commitment to sobriety is in proportion to the rest of life, and the fully-recovering individual, couple, or family, is able to enjoy life, support each other, cope well with stress, listen, and love.
The fully-recovering person feels good about himself or herself, has learned to treat self and others with kindness, and is effective in the majority of situations. He or she is able to integrate the many aspects of the self into healthy, confident, well-functioning people.
We are Washington State Certified Chemical Dependency Professionals and accept most insurance. Payment plans are available.
